A Camden man was sentenced to 260 months in prison for trafficking three minors to engage in commercial sex acts, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced Friday.
Semaj A. Gilmore, 34, previously pleaded guilty before U.S. Chief District Judge Renée Marie Bumb to three counts of a superseding indictment charging him with sex trafficking minors. Judge Bumb imposed the sentence today in Camden federal court.
According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court, Gilmore transported, at various times from September 2020 to April 2021, three minor victims from Philadelphia to New Jersey knowing they would engage in a commercial sex act at Gilmore’s direction. Each of the victims was under the age of 18 at the time.
During that time, Gilmore had been required to register as a sex offender as a result of a prior conviction.
In addition to the prison term, Judge Bumb sentenced Gilmore to 10 years of supervised release.
Gilmore was arrested as he tried to flee from the parking lot of a Mount Laurel motel in April 2021, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for New Jersey.
An investigator had gone to the motel in response to an online ad with the photo of a missing girl.
Sellinger credited special agents of FBI’s South Jersey Resident Agency, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Wayne A. Jacobs in Philadelphia, with the investigation leading to the sentencing. He also thanked members of the Mount Laurel Police Department and the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office for their assistance.
The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey Bender and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Katelyn Waegener of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Camden.
