Pilot killed in small plane crash in Hunterdon County, New Jersey

A small plane crashed near Alexandria Field Airport on Friday afternoon, killing the sole pilot on board, according to officials.

The wreckage was discovered engulfed in flames near the intersection of Airport Road and Mechlin Corner Road in Alexandria Township, a short distance from the airport, authorities said.

Firefighters and emergency responders arrived to find the aircraft and the surrounding area ablaze.

The Quakertown Fire Department stated that the plane went down in a densely wooded area late Friday afternoon.

Multiple agencies, including New Jersey State Police, firefighters, and paramedics, responded to the scene. Crews quickly contained the fire but found the pilot deceased inside the aircraft.

An official from Alexandria Field Airport confirmed that the pilot was the only person aboard the plane. The identity of the pilot has not yet been released, and the destination of the flight remains unclear.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). No further details have been provided at this time.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with those impacted by this tragedy,” the Quakertown Fire Department said in a statement, deferring additional inquiries to state police.
