A Trenton man has been charged with murdering his girlfriend this past Sunday, following an investigation that spanned from New Jersey into Pennsylvania.
Lamont Truitt, 36, is charged with first-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder, first-degree carjacking, and multiple weapons offenses.
He was arrested on November 16, 2025, after turning himself in. A motion to detain him pending trial has been filed.
The incident began on Sunday, November 16, at approximately 5:51 a.m., when police received a ShotSpotter alert and emergency calls reporting a woman shot in the leg in the area of Oakland Street.
Responding officers located a 25-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound on the 200 block of Coolidge Avenue. The injured woman was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
While on the scene, authorities received another call reporting a second woman had been shot multiple times by a man who then fled in a silver, four-door vehicle.
The investigation, led by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Trenton Police Department, alleges that Truitt approached a silver Toyota Camry parked on Coolidge Avenue, where 32-year-old Alyssia Murphy of Trenton was sitting with a friend.
After an argument, Truitt allegedly produced a handgun and fired multiple shots into the vehicle.
The 25-year-old passenger escaped the car with a gunshot wound. Truitt then allegedly entered the Camry, with Murphy still inside, and drove away.
Approximately two hours later, the Lower Makefield Township Police Department in Pennsylvania located a silver Toyota Camry in the area of East Ferry Road and the Delaware Canal. A deceased woman, identified as Alyssia Murphy, was found inside the vehicle.
Pennsylvania authorities have stated they are assisting with the investigation that originated in Trenton and that there is no ongoing concern for community safety in their jurisdiction.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Mercer County Homicide Task Force.
It is important to note that despite these charges, every defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
According to a 2013 police blotter, Lamont D. Truitt was previously arrested on a burglary charge in Hamilton Township.
