New Jersey teenager charged for the stabbing death of his 49-year-old mother

A community in Mays Landing, New Jersey, is grappling with a profound tragedy this evening following the death of a 49-year-old woman.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday, has resulted in the arrest of her 17-year-old son.

Authorities from the Hamilton Township Police Department report they were dispatched to the Meadowbrook Condominiums shortly after six o’clock Saturday evening.

The call, which alerted them to a juvenile male in possession of a knife, led officers to a residence where they discovered Julissa Serrano suffering from multiple stab wounds.

Serrano was transported to the AtlantiCare Medical Center in Atlantic City, where she was later pronounced dead.

The subsequent investigation, now being conducted by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, has led to the arrest of the victim’s teenage son.

He has been charged with murder and two related weapons offenses.

The accused is currently being held at the Harborfields Atlantic Youth Center, awaiting his initial appearance before a judge.

As is standard in all criminal proceedings, it must be noted that these charges constitute an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office has stated that the cause and manner of Serrano’s death will be formally determined by the Southern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

Officials are requesting that anyone with information about this case contact their Major Crime Unit.

The path toward understanding what transpired in that Mays Landing apartment now moves from the scene of the crime to the quiet halls of justice.
