This ditty popped into my head, and it can be sung to the tune of “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing,” while you are suffering in the harsh new world of Trickle-Down on steroids.
(Verse 1)
I’d like to buy the world a Coke, but that just costs too much.
I need to save for insulin, and rent, and other stuff.
The grocery bill keeps climbing high; it’s getting pretty rough.
I’d like to buy the world a Coke, but I can’t pay for stuff.
(Chorus)
You can trace the pain right to the top, to policies that flop.
A tariff here, a tax-cut scam, that makes the good times stop.
It’s the price we pay for foolish men and promises they made…
While the middle class just gets squeezed out and loses this charade.
(Verse 2)
Old Ronnie said that wealth would rain, a trickle-down design.
But all it did was fill the vaults on yachts along the line.
They shipped the factories overseas, left rust and broken dreams,
And told us we were lucky for their free-market regimes.
(Chorus)
You can trace the pain right to the top, to policies that flop.
A tariff here, a tax-cut scam, that makes the good times stop.
It’s the price we pay for foolish men and promises they made…
While the middle class just gets squeezed out and loses this charade.
(Bridge)
And now they slap on tariffs, a new and costly fee,
So the things we try to buy at Walmart cost us more, you see.
It’s a game of pointing fingers, a political charade,
While we’re choosing medication or the bills that must be paid.
(Chorus)
You can trace the pain right to the top, to policies that flop.
A tariff here, a tax-cut scam, that makes the good times stop.
It’s the price we pay for foolish men and promises they made…
While the middle class just gets squeezed out and loses this charade.
(Outro)
I’d like to buy my kid a bike…
I’d like to take a decent hike…
But my wallet’s feeling light…
‘Cause the folks in charge just ain’t that bright…
No, they just ain’t that bright.
