PoliticsGirl delivers sharp critique of do-nothing Democratic establishment insiders

PoliticsGirl Leigh McGowan and progressive powerhouse Lisa McCormick are calling out Vichy Democrats who are collaborating with authoritarian Republicans to protect their political careers instead of doing their jobs by fighting for American values.

Leigh McGowan, widely known as PoliticsGirl, delivered a sharp critique of Democratic leadership in her latest remarks, accusing those in power of failing to protect democratic norms and institutions.

In a passionate message directed at Democrats in positions of power, McGowan argued that the party’s reluctance to confront the threat of rising authoritarianism is endangering the nation’s future.

She emphasized that Democratic leaders are faced with a critical choice: “protect the country or protect yourself.”

McGowan argued that too many are making the wrong decision, prioritizing personal safety over the preservation of the nation’s democratic values.

“Your role at this moment in history as the opposition to a rising authoritarian party is to vocally and resolutely oppose the complete destruction of our institutions, our Constitution, and our rule of law before it’s too late,” she said.

Lisa McCormick, an outspoken progressive critic of the party’s establishment, expressed agreement with McGowan’s call for more decisive action but emphasized that the fight for democracy also requires confronting corruption within the Democratic Party itself.

In her comments, McGowan pointed to what she perceives as the growing authoritarianism under President Donald Trump, particularly referencing his actions and the agenda of the “Project 2025” initiative.

She criticized the Trump administration for targeting key government functions, including the purge of corruption watchdogs and the reduction of funding for essential services such as cancer research and veterans’ programs, while simultaneously funneling money to private prisons and billionaires.

McGowan called on Democratic leaders to step up their opposition, stressing that the party’s current “placid tweets” and “business as usual” approach are insufficient in the face of the threats the country is facing.

She urged leaders to “get in the way” of these dangerous policies, citing the example of Republican obstruction tactics over the past decade.

“Obstruct, deny, be annoying, get your face in front of every media camera and you say this is outrageous,” McGowan urged.

The political commentator also expressed frustration with the apparent weakness of Democratic leadership in confronting Trump, describing the former president as a bully who has learned to exploit uncertainty.

“Donald Trump eats the weak for breakfast,” she remarked, warning that Trump’s tactics are aimed at consolidating power and advancing authoritarian goals.

McCormick, who ran against Bob Menendez in the 2018 U.S. Senate primary, reiterated her belief that the Democratic establishment has too often acted in self-interest, failing to prioritize the needs of the American people.

“PoliticsGirl Leigh McGowan is absolutely right that we face an existential threat from authoritarian forces, and it’s past time for Democratic leaders to stop cowering in the face of these attacks,” McCormick said. “But we cannot ignore the role that corruption within our own ranks has played in weakening our ability to resist these forces.”

McCormick criticized what she sees as the establishment’s habit of prioritizing corporate donors and political self-preservation over the needs of ordinary Americans.

“The Democratic Party has spent too long siding with the billionaires, corporate interests, and private prisons that Leigh McGowan mentions,” McCormick noted. “Until we clean house and eliminate the influence of money in politics, Democrats will remain unable to mobilize the grassroots power necessary to take on authoritarianism and defend democracy.”

She also expressed frustration with the Democratic Party’s failure to offer a bold, progressive alternative to the policies that PoliticsGirl Leigh McGowan and others criticize.

“We need a party that stands for more than just opposition to Trump,” said McCormick. “We need a party that unambiguously and courageously fights for universal healthcare, climate justice, a living wage, and an end to mass incarceration. If we don’t fight for these things with everything we’ve got, we will continue to lose ground.”

McCormick expressed the belief that Politics Girl is saying that Democrats must be willing to confront their own failures if they are to successfully combat the rise of authoritarianism.

“We need leaders who are willing to put the country ahead of their own political careers,” McCormick said. “That means standing up to the corporate interests that have corrupted our political system and fighting for the values that truly represent the American people.”

McGowan’s message concluded with a call to action: “For the majority of this country who still believe in democracy and human rights… find your fight or get out of the way for the Warriors that we need,” she urged, underscoring the urgency of the moment and the need for strong leadership to defend American democratic principles.

“Americans must rise to the responsibility of citizenship,” said McCormick. “Leigh McGowan launched Politics Girl as a YouTube channel in 2015 as a way to inform and inspire because people failed to connect politics with the consequences of government action. Our duty as citizens means we must take responsibility for running the country instead of just complaining about those who are ruining the country.”
