Andy Kim is caught in a handful of lies. Could they derail his Senate campaign?

Congressman Andy Kim lied by claiming that he does not accept money from corporate PACs, and a prominent New Jersey Democrat revealed that the establishment-backed contender for the US Senate has taken four contributions adding up to $20,000 from American Crystal Sugar Corporation PAC.

Kim also apparently lied in documents filed with the federal U.S. District Court, in which he falsely claimed that he did not want to run on the organization line with US Senator Bob Menendez in 2018 when they were running mates in the Democratic primary election.

Kim was under no obligation to accept placement next to Menendez in the June 2018 Democratic primary, and he was unopposed for the nomination, so he could have remained independent of the regular political organization or accepted an open offer to run with Lisa McCormick, who was guaranteed one of the first two slots on the ballot.

In a sworn statement filed in connection with his lawsuit challenging the unfair way county clerks arranged candidates on the ballot, Kim stated that he did not want to be slotted alongside Menendez.

More and more, it seems that the carefully crafted narrative used to advance the youthful lawmaker is dishonest—from how his mild-mannered appearance diverges from a professional record as a bloodthirsty strategist whose advice to top Pentagon generals and the White House prolonged the military conflict in Afghanistan, to his frequent flip-flopping on issues related to Israel and Gaza—but voters are just starting to get a look at the man who displaced First Lady Tammy Murphy from a secure route to the US Senate.

When Kim made his first foray into electoral politics, Menendez was endorsed by all 21 Democratic county organizations despite the hung jury in his 11-week criminal trial and his unanimous admonishment by the Senate Ethics Committee.

Kim could have remained independent of the regular political organization or accepted an open offer to run with Lisa McCormick, who was guaranteed one of the first two slots on the ballot as the only New Jersey Democrat challenging the crooked lawmaker.

Claiming he was motivated to run in 2018 due to incumbent Republican Representative Tom MacArthur’s work on the House Republicans’ American Health Care Act (AHCA), which Kim said would have prevented his parents and yet unborn son from receiving the care they needed, the former White House national security aide told crowds in Ocean County that he would support Medicare for All.

In Congress, Kim betrayed that promise. Today he utters a meaningless line about supporting a “single-payer or multi-payer” health insurance system.

In his first three elections, Kim ran against three self-funding GOP candidates who spent millions of their own money attempting to win his seat in Congress but the former White House national security aide outspent all three wealthy Republicans.

The nonpartisan OpenSecrets reported that Kim raised over $34 million since his first campaign in 2018.

Kim’s campaigns have received $2,049,671 from the Securities industry, $1,747,142 from lawyers, and $758,699 from healthcare professionals, according to OpenSecrets, which based its findings on records filed with the Federal Elelction Commission.
