Lying Andy Kim’s Medicare for All double-talk is killing us softly with BS

The current state of the US healthcare system is a glaring indictment of corporate greed and political complacency.

While Americans grapple with exorbitant healthcare costs and a system rife with inefficiencies, Congressman Andy Kim’s refusal to support Medicare for All further exacerbates this crisis.

As working-class individuals face the grim choice between seeking medical aid or paying rent, the Congressman’s allegiance to the existing insurance system is apparent in his duplicitous language that hides the true extent of the issue.

Both of his competitors in the race for the Democratic nomination for the US Senate, Larry Hamm and Patricia Campos-Medina, would prioritize people’s health over corporate profits and demand accountability from our elected representatives.

The US healthcare system, notorious worldwide for its abysmal performance, consumes a staggering $4.3 trillion annually, nearly twice as much as comparable countries. Yet, despite this exorbitant spending, Americans live shorter lives, and infants are more likely to die compared to other developed nations.

The profits amassed by insurance companies, big pharma, and other entities within the healthcare industry highlight the perverse incentives driving this broken system.

Even during the height of the pandemic, when lives were at stake, these corporations reported record profits, showcasing their prioritization of financial gain over public health.

A recent cyberattack targeting UnitedHealth Group, a major player in the healthcare industry with $22 billion in profits in 2023 alone, exposed the fragility of the US healthcare model.

This attack disrupted vital electronic healthcare payment systems, causing widespread repercussions across medical facilities, from small clinics to large hospital networks.

The resulting chaos jeopardizes essential services, including critical care, prescription fulfillment, and insurance processing, leaving millions vulnerable in the face of illness and disease.

While the government has intervened to mitigate the crisis, such measures are temporary solutions to a systemic problem. The ongoing threat of healthcare facility closures, especially those serving low-income communities, underscores the urgent need for comprehensive reform.

In contrast to this dire situation, Andy Kim’s refusal to support Medicare for All perpetuates the cycle of dysfunction within the healthcare system.

Instead of embracing the one bold solution that prioritizes public health over corporate profits, Andy Kim remains complicit in maintaining a flawed status quo rather than universal coverage. The way he describes that position is either a lie or it reveals that he just does not know anything about one of America’s most urgent issues.

The ongoing debate between political parties, represented by figures like Biden and Trump, over incremental changes to existing healthcare policies, fails to address the root causes of the healthcare crisis.

The Affordable Care Act, while providing some relief, is not a panacea for the deeply entrenched problems plaguing the system but Medicare for All would solve them.

The historic level of ACA enrollment in 2024, driven more by desperation than confidence, underscores the need for substantive change. Only through a mass working-class movement advocating for a universal, free-at-point-of-use healthcare system like Medicare for All can Americans hope to reverse the tide of disease and despair gripping our nation.

Andy Kim’s failure to support Medicare for All is a disservice to his constituents, a betrayal of the urgent need for transformative healthcare reform, and a strong reason why he would never be able to win a competitive Democratic primary election with an informed electorate.

Both Larry Hamm and Patricia Campos-Medina support Medicare for All, so every time Andy Kim is touted as the presumptive Senate nominee or Democratic front runner, it should count as an illegal corporate to his campaign.
