Ahead of the do-or-die South Carolina Republican primary later this month, Nimarata Haley has launched a sharp attack on both Donald Trump and Joe Biden, calling them “Grumpy Old Men”.
Haley, the 52-year-old former UN Ambassador, and ex-South Carolina Governor, is the only GOP candidate challenging Trump, the 77-year-old former president, for the Republican nomination.
“We’ve got two grumpy old men running for office, and 70% of Americans don’t want to see the sequel to that movie,” said Haley. “It’s time for a new generational conservative leader who can unify our country and get results.”
“Another day, another poll showing that America doesn’t want two grumpy old men,” said Haley. “Once again, Trump is within the margin of error and I wipe the floor with Joe Biden.”
Haley’s campaign said that the series will feature various aspects of what the country should expect from Trump and Biden if they are the nominees come November, “More chaos, confusion, drama, and a refusal to debate.”
The upcoming primary on February 24 in South Carolina holds immense significance, with a Trump victory potentially solidifying his position as the presumptive nominee, while a win for Haley could significantly boost her candidacy within the Republican Party.
Both Republicans, Trump and Haley, are actively campaigning in South Carolina, which is Haley’s home state, where she has served for 8 straight years as the Governor.
Haley’s campaign launched a series of political ads titled “Grumpy Old Men,” hinting at the age of both leading contenders.
Using the imagery reminiscent of the 1993 film “Grumpy Old Men,” Haley posted a modified version of the film poster on social media, featuring the faces of Joe Biden and Donald Trump in place of the on-screen actors.
“Two curmudgeonly old rivals, reclusive spendthrifts, are marching toward a showdown that a lot of people really wish wasn’t happening,” said the New York Times. “If that is the plot of a slapstick comedy, it’s also the latest knock from Nikki Haley on former President Donald J. Trump and President Biden as she fights for oxygen ahead of the Republican primary in South Carolina on Feb. 24.”
Biden, at 81, currently holds the record as the oldest president in American history. At 77, he became the oldest President of the USA.
Observers say the could prove a risky bet as she looks to court a Republican base that is largely graying, white, and Christian.
