Authorities eight distressed canines from Neptune Township dog-fighting ring

Neptune Dog Fight Ring

Authorities discovered a dog-fighting ring in Neptune Township, leading to the rescue of eight distressed canines.

The Monmouth County SPCA Humane Law Enforcement, in collaboration with Neptune Township Police, responded to an anonymous call reporting animals in distress on Embury Avenue on Saturday, February 3, 2024.

Upon arrival, officers traced a path marked with fresh blood to a backyard garage. Inside, they found six dogs confined in separate crates, surrounded by squalid conditions.

The animals bore signs of brutal treatment, with scabs, scars, and puncture wounds indicating their involvement in illegal dog fighting activities.

The grim scene deepened as authorities unearthed evidence suggesting the garage was a hub for training dogs to fight.

Among the confiscated items were syringes, IV bags, and suspected animal steroids, alongside two dog treadmills—tools commonly used in the despicable trade of dog fighting.

Additionally, two dogs were found tethered outside with heavy chains attached to dog houses, further implicating the occupants of the residence in the illicit operation.

The individuals present at the scene exhibited hostility towards law enforcement, resulting in the arrest of one individual by Neptune Township Police for disorderly behavior.

Ross Licitra, Executive Director of the Monmouth County SPCA, expressed his shock and dismay at the scene, stating, “Our Humane Law Enforcement Division, along with Neptune Township Police Department, and the Monmouth County Forensics unit worked late into the night to investigate this horrific scene and get the eight dogs to safety.”

All rescued dogs are now under the care of compassionate staff, receiving the attention and treatment they deserve after enduring trauma and neglect. Licitra assured that the perpetrators of this heinous crime would face the full extent of the law, with prosecution efforts spearheaded by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

In light of this incident, the Monmouth County SPCA is calling for public support to aid in the medical care and rehabilitation of the rescued dogs.

Donations are being accepted through bit.ly/neptunefightring to ensure the well-being of these animals as they embark on their journey to recovery.

This shocking revelation serves as a stark reminder of the persistence of animal cruelty in our communities and underscores the importance of vigilant enforcement efforts to combat such atrocities.

As investigations continue, authorities remain committed to seeking justice for the innocent victims ensnared in the horrors of the Neptune Dog Fighting Ring.
