A pedestrian was fatally struck by a motor vehicle on Thursday night, according to Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago.
At about 8:18 p.m., Ocean Township Police Department responded to a distress call regarding a pedestrian hit by a motor vehicle near the intersection of State Highway 35 and Valley Road.
Preliminary investigations suggest that a 38-year-old male was walking along the southbound side of the highway when he was struck by a 2015 Jeep Wrangler, driven by a 66-year-old female while traversing the left lane.
The pedestrian was rushed to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 8:59 p.m.
The driver of the Wrangler remained at the scene following the incident.
An active and ongoing investigation, led by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and Ocean Township Police Department, is currently underway.

As of now, no charges or summonses have been issued in connection with the tragic event. Authorities are working to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
