Trenton homeowner shot an intruder dead, no charges filed as few details shared by police

The Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Trenton Police Department are currently investigating a fatal shooting incident that occurred late Sunday evening in Trenton during what appears to have been an attempted home invasion robbery.

Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri reported that at approximately 10:25 p.m. on Sunday, March 17, 2024, Trenton patrol units responded to a shooting in progress on Bert Avenue.

Upon arrival, Trenton detectives found the victim, identified as Andray Ingram, 34, of Trenton, lying on the ground on St. Francis Avenue with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Ingram was rushed to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the Bert Avenue homeowner fired multiple shots at Ingram, who was reportedly unknown to the resident, vandalizing the property by smashing a Ring doorbell camera with a hammer and banging on the front door.

Ingram managed to enter the vestibule area of the home before being shot.

The homeowner, whose identity has not been disclosed, discharged the firearm from inside the residence during the confrontation.

Peterson’s Breaking News of Trenton was on the scene shortly after a homeowner shot and killed Andray Ingram, 34, of Trenton, during what appears to have been an attempted home invasion robbery.

No charges have been filed against the homeowner at this time, and few details have been released as the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting is ongoing.

A spokesperson for Onofri declined to say what kind of firearm was used or whether the homeowner who shot Ingram is licensed to own the weapon.

The exact location of the shooting was not disclosed by authorities, but a Trenton city official confirmed the incident occurred on the 200 block of Bert Avenue.
