Trenton police investigating a fatal stabbing at Kingsbury Square apartments

The Mercer County Homicide Task Force, in collaboration with the Trenton Police Department, is actively investigating a fatal stabbing that occurred late last night in the city.

The incident took place at approximately 2:40 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at the Kingsbury Square low-rise apartments, the financially strapped and much maligned housing complex known as One Poverty Place.

Upon receiving a distress call, Trenton police promptly responded to the scene where they discovered an adult male victim inside an abandoned apartment, suffering from multiple stab wounds.

Immediate medical attention was provided, and the victim was swiftly transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center. Despite efforts to save his life, he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

Authorities have detained a suspect at the scene, but as of now, no formal charges have been filed.

The investigation is ongoing, with law enforcement officials diligently working to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and piece together the events leading up to the tragic incident.

Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri urged anyone with information related to the case to come forward and assist in the investigation. “We are actively seeking information from the community to help us understand the circumstances surrounding this senseless act of violence,” stated Prosecutor Onofri.

Individuals with relevant information are encouraged to contact MCHTF Detective Paulina Way at 609-722-0172 or OIC William Jett at 609-331-5010. Alternatively, information can be emailed to mchtftips@mercercounty.org. Authorities assure that all information provided will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.

As the investigation continues, the community remains on edge, grappling with the shock and sadness of yet another violent incident at the low income housing apartments subsidized by the federal government’s Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
