Fired school bus claims Millville Public Charter School violated Law Against Discrimination

Genera Fisher, 49, of Sewell, has filed a complaint against Millville Public Charter School accusing the non-profit corporation of violating the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (LAD) and legal doctrines related to employment rights.

The lawsuit, identified as BUR-L-000475-24, was filed on March 7, 2024, and details Fisher’s allegations of retaliation and wrongful termination.

According to the complaint, Fisher alleges that Millville Public Charter School terminated her employment in retaliation for reporting a hate crime and/or racial harassment.

The complaint refers to incidents involving Fisher driving a school bus and encountering aggressive behavior from an individual identified as John Doe, whose child attended the school.

Fisher claims that after reporting the incident to the Millville Police Department, she was emotionally distressed and contacted her sons for support.

However, the lawsuit asserts that Fisher’s supervisor, identified as Supervisor Dennis, falsely accused her sons of engaging in threatening behavior, leading to her termination.

The complaint further alleges that Fisher’s termination was based on false justifications provided by Supervisor Dennis and that upper-level management at Millville Public Charter School upheld the termination despite Fisher’s objections and denials of the allegations.

The lawsuit seeks various forms of relief, including compensatory damages, punitive damages, interest, costs of suit, attorneys’ fees, equitable back pay, equitable front pay, equitable reinstatement, and other relief deemed equitable and just by the court.

Fisher’s legal representation is handled by Costello, Mains & Silverman, LLC, with attorney Erica B. Askin listed as representing the plaintiff.

Millville Public Charter School, located at 1101 Wheaton Avenue, Millville, New Jersey, has not yet responded publicly to the allegations in the lawsuit.

The court will now proceed with the legal process to address the claims made by Genera Fisher against Millville Public Charter School, and further developments in the case are expected to unfold as the litigation progresses.
