A tragic incident unfolded in Jersey City’s Heights neighborhood on Sunday, April 7, 2024, resulting in the death of one individual and leaving two others injured due to gunfire.
The shooting, which occurred at approximately 9 p.m. near Central Avenue and Bowers Street, has prompted an investigation by authorities.
Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has provided details regarding the incident, stating that the Jersey City Police Department received reports of shots fired in the area, prompting a swift response.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered two victims with gunshot wounds. Both victims were promptly transported to Jersey City Medical Center for medical treatment.
Freddie Posey, 25, of Jersey City, was pronounced dead shortly after 9:30 p.m.
A 30-year-old Jersey City woman sustained injuries deemed non-life-threatening and is currently receiving medical care.
The third victim, a 24-year-old male from Jersey City, independently sought treatment for a non-life-threatening injury at University Hospital in Newark.
The prosecutor’s homicide unit, in conjunction with the Jersey City Police Department, has initiated a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
