Two men were injured in back-to-back shooting incidents in Newark

Newark Police are looking into two back-to-back shooting incidents that each left one male victim injured.

The first shooting happened on Sunday evening, April 7, 2024, at 34 Rowland Street, in Newark’s North Ward.

The investigation began around 7:35 p.m. when a gunshot victim arrived at Clara Mass Medical Center in the emergency room.

Hospital staff alerted the police and responding officers were told that 34 Rowland Street, was the location where the shooting took place.

While detectives scoured the area in search of a crime scene, officers interrogated the victim to learn the motive behind the shooting.

The second incident unfolded around 5:30 p.m. on Monday, April 8, 2024, when the Newark Police Department received reports of gunfire echoing near the vicinity of 448 Avon Avenue.

Police officers responding to the call encountered a male victim who had sustained gunshot wounds.

The injured man was transported to University Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

The Newark Police Department’s Shooting Response Team has launched an investigation and law enforcement officials have requested help from the public to solve the crimes.

No arrests have been made in connection with either incident, both of which remain under active investigation.
