New Jersey state trooper in fatal collision with motorcyclist on Route 70

A motorcyclist died after he was involved in a crash with a New Jersey state trooper in Burlington County Tuesday, according to a news release from Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin’s office.

According to the preliminary investigation, on April 9, 2024, in Southampton, an on-duty New Jersey state trooper was conducting routine patrol duties on State Route 70 when his marked patrol vehicle was involved in a collision with a civilian motorcycle near Burrs Mill Road.

The motorcyclist was an adult male transported to Virtua Mount Holly Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at about 12:45 p.m. sustained fatal injuries. His identity is not being released at this time.

The state trooper involved in the collision did not sustain significant injuries. The attorney general’s office is investigating the incident.
