Celebrate Astronomy Day with “The Science of Star Wars” at Trailside & Sperry

Presented by two esteemed astronomy clubs, Amateur Astronomers, Inc. and the North Jersey Astronomical Group, this event offers a fusion of science, entertainment, and exploration for enthusiasts of all ages.

The festivities kick off at Trailside Nature & Science Center, located at 452 New Providence Road, Mountainside, NJ, 07092, from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Attendees can expect a lineup of engaging activities, including robotics demonstrations, childcare activities, and reading sessions tailored for young stargazers.

Presentations on Exoplanets, NASA robots, and the scientific concepts behind the iconic Star Wars franchise will captivate audiences, while science demonstrations on light spectrum, gravity, and cosmic rays will provide hands-on learning experiences.

Moreover, the event will feature presentations and displays showcasing meteorites and geology, offering insights into the dynamic forces shaping our universe.

Weather permitting, visitors can indulge in safe solar observing and embark on a cosmic journey with a solar system walk. With a diverse range of activities, Astronomy Day at Trailside promises an enriching experience for everyone.

As the day transitions into the evening, the excitement continues at the William Miller Sperry Observatory, located at 1033 Springfield Avenue, Cranford, NJ 0701.

From 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm, attendees can delve into the fascinating OSIRIS-REx Mission, which retrieved samples from asteroid Bennu, shedding light on the mysteries of our solar system. The observatory will offer observing sessions through its two large telescopes, providing glimpses of celestial wonders, weather permitting.

Additionally, members of Amateur Astronomers, Inc. and the North Jersey Astronomical Group will showcase their telescopes for public viewing, enhancing the stargazing experience for all.

Whether conditions are ideal for observing or not, Sperry Observatory will remain open, inviting attendees to explore the wonders of the night sky.
