A significant crash involving a tractor-trailer resulted in the partial blockage of the southbound lanes of the New Jersey Turnpike on Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred near Exit 4 – Route 73, causing disruptions and delays for commuters.

According to New Jersey State Police, the collision transpired around 3:30 a.m. when the tractor-trailer veered off the road.

The aftermath of the accident has led to the closure of the right lane and shoulder of the highway. The driver of the truck became trapped inside as the cab of the vehicle collided with approximately 15 feet of guardrail along the turnpike.

Emergency response teams swiftly intervened, working tirelessly to extricate the driver from the wreckage.

The injured driver was subsequently transported to Cooper University Hospital in Camden for medical treatment. Fortunately, authorities have indicated that the driver’s condition is stable, and he is expected to recover.

The extent of the damage caused by the crash is considerable. The bed of the truck became wedged under an overpass, though officials have confirmed that there is no structural compromise.

However, the collision did result in the destruction of wiring and surveillance cameras situated in the vicinity, necessitating their replacement.

Efforts to clear the debris and wreckage from the scene are ongoing but are anticipated to require several more hours. Consequently, the affected lanes of the New Jersey Turnpike are not expected to reopen until approximately noon. Commuters are advised to seek alternative routes and exercise patience as authorities work diligently to restore normal traffic flow.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and caution while navigating roadways, particularly during early morning hours when visibility may be compromised. Additionally, it underscores the critical role of emergency response teams in promptly addressing and managing such incidents to ensure the safety of all road users.
