Oakland man charged for social media posts that threatened to shoot law enforcement officers

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of Todd V. Gentile, 55, residing at 96 Truman Boulevard, Oakland, NJ, on the charge of terroristic threats, following an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the leadership of Chief Matthew Finck.

The investigation commenced on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, when the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit began examining a series of social media posts that threatened to shoot law enforcement officers. Over the following weeks, detectives successfully traced these posts back to Gentile.

On Thursday, May 23, 2024, Gentile, who was already in custody at the Bergen County Jail on an unrelated matter, was formally charged with third-degree terroristic threats under N.J.S.A. 2C:12-3a.

He remains held at the Bergen County Jail and is awaiting his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.

Musella emphasized that the charge is an accusation and that Gentile is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He also expressed gratitude to the Oakland Police Department for their assistance in the investigation.

A LinkedIn profile matching Todd Gentile from Oakland, New Jersey, lists him as the Facilities Manager at Wyckoff Family YMCA.
