The same Republicans who want to ban abortion and birth control also want to outlaw blowjobs.

Those who would persecute the LGBT community and turn back the clock on women’s rights are the same kind of puritanical religious zealots who burned accused witches at the stake in America. They are the kind of people who enslaved Americans for hundred of years. Today’s neofascist MAGA Republicans are on the march and Americans must approach this election with the courage to shut down their ideology of hate, fear and injustice.
House Speaker Mike Johnson has sought to outlaw oral sex, a stance rooted in his past statements and legislative actions. A combination of his public comments, historical voting record, and affiliations with conservative organizations are compelling evidence of his intent.
During his tenure in the Louisiana State Legislature, Johnson sponsored and supported several bills aimed at restricting sexual freedoms. Notably, he was a proponent of legislation that sought to criminalize sodomy, which includes oral sex. Although these laws were ultimately struck down by the courts, Johnson’s advocacy for these measures is seen as a clear indication of his desire to enforce strict moral codes based on his puritanical religious beliefs.
As an attorney and former spokesman for the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), a conservative Christian legal advocacy group, Johnson supported laws that criminalize certain sexual behaviors. In 2003, Johnson wrote an opinion piece defending anti-sodomy laws, arguing that such laws should remain in place to promote public health and morality. This view aligns with his broader stance on sexuality, where he has consistently advocated for traditional definitions of sexual conduct (Advocate.com) (LGBTQ Nation) (Advocate.com).

Ken Cuccinelli, a Republican and former Attorney General of Virginia, has been a notable figure in efforts to enforce laws that criminalize certain sexual acts, including oral sex.
In his 2013 campaign for governor, Cuccinelli sought to reinstate Virginia’s “Crimes Against Nature” law, which banned oral and anal sex between consenting adults, despite a federal court striking down the law earlier that year. He argued that these laws were necessary to protect children from sexual predators, although critics pointed out that the laws also affected private, consensual acts between adults, both heterosexual and homosexual (Yahoo News – Latest News & Headlines) (Mother Jones) (Crooks and Liars).
Cuccinelli’s stance was framed within a broader context of morality and natural law. In 2009, he publicly stated that he believed homosexual acts were “intrinsically wrong” and supported policies that reflected this view (theweek). This perspective, combined with his legal actions, led to significant controversy and accusations of promoting an extreme agenda against LGBTQ+ rights.
These efforts illustrate an instance where a Republican politician has explicitly sought to uphold or reinstate laws that would criminalize private, consensual sexual behavior, including oral sex.

Another specific example involves Jim Donelon, a former Democrat who switched to the Republican Party in the early 1980s.
Once in office, Donelon proposed the “Crimes Against Nature” statute (CANS) in Louisiana, which specifically targeted gay men by criminalizing the solicitation of homosexual acts. This law enabled law enforcement to arrest men simply for verbally soliciting gay sex, leading to numerous raids on gay bars and bookstores in New Orleans (Scalawag: https://scalawagmagazine.org/2021/06/trans-sex-worker-laws-new-orleans/).
The Crime Against Nature by Solicitation statute—a Louisiana law known colloquially as “CANS”. It was passed in 1982 in a vote of the Louisiana State Legislature that almost no one—not even the bill’s author—admits to remembering. But according to Cooper, this law has been used as a tool for the lifelong subjugation of trans women of color in Louisiana ever since.
Legislation that restricts sexual activities among consenting adults is fundamentally un-American because it violates constitutional protections, infringes on personal liberties, and contradicts the principles of freedom and equality that are central to American identity.
Such laws are not only legally and morally problematic but also detrimental to the social fabric of a diverse and pluralistic society but Republicans want to outlaw abortion, birth control, and blowjobs.
