Deptford police shot fleeing suspect on Thanksgiving Day

Authorities are investigating a police-involved shooting that occurred on Thanksgiving Day, resulting in a man being hospitalized with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

According to the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, police responded to a disturbance call at the Fairfield Inn on the 1100 block of Hurffville Road Thursday afternoon.

Upon arriving, officers encountered a man who then jumped out of a second-story window and fled on foot.

During the ensuing foot chase, an officer fired a shot that struck the man, who was subsequently apprehended by police.

The injured man was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The suspect’s identity has not been released, and investigators have not disclosed whether he was armed at the time of the incident.

No officers were reported injured during the event.

Route 42 was temporarily closed in both directions as part of the investigation. Authorities have confirmed there is no further risk to the public.

The Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office is leading the investigation into the shooting. No additional details have been provided at this time.
