A woman who once called herself the “MAGA Granny” but has spent the past few years criticizing the Republican whose lies resulted in her being sentenced to 60 days in prison for joining the mob of terrorists that stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
Now, Pamela Hemphill, who served 60 day sentence at federal prison in California in 2022, doesn’t want President Donald Trump’s pardon because she wants to own what she did at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
“I don’t want to be a part of them trying to rewrite history. It was an insurrection that day,” said Hemphill, the day after Trump issued the pardons.
She pleaded guilty, according to court documents, to violent entry or disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.
Hemphill, 71, is giving up the chance to clear her name, and she said she will remain on federal probation for nine more months.
She doesn’t want President Donald Trump’s pardon because she’s taking responsibility for what she did.
She knows that Trump lied about winning the 2020 election, and she was at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, so she understands that the angry mob was manipulated and used.
Trump’s illegal effort to remain in power after he was soundly defeated by Democrat Joe Biden in 2020 included falsely claiming that unqualified people cast ballots, casting doubt on vote counting systems, and submitting fake electors.
Ultimately, Trump incited a mob of insurrectionists to mount a violent attack on the U.S. Capitol in the hope of disrupting Congress while it was in the process of certifying the Electoral College results.
Had that certification been delayed, the House of Representatives would have been able to give Trump a second term despite his 8-million-vote loss in the election.
On Trump’s first day back in the Oval Office, he pardoned more than 1,500 terrorists who violently attacked police and caused millions of dollars in damage to the historic building.
