Lisa McCormick says citizens can stop Trump’s “Tyrannical Rule” to preserve democracy

Activist Lisa McCormick has issued a stark call to action, urging Americans to confront what she describes as the “tyrannical rule” of President Donald Trump and the unchecked expansion of executive power.

In a statement titled Only You Can Preserve the Republic That Tyrant Trump Is Trying to Destroy,” McCormick warns that the Republic is imperiled and calls on citizens to rise up and restore the balance of power before it is too late.

McCormick’s statement, shared widely on social media and her website, frames the current political climate as an existential threat to democracy.

She argues that the Trump administration has systematically undermined the rule of law, defied congressional authority, and eroded the constitutional checks and balances designed to prevent tyranny.

“The Republic is imperiled, and the blame lies squarely at the feet of an unchecked, lawless, and imperial presidency,” wrote McCormick. “We cannot stand idly by as the executive branch tramples on the separation of powers, defies Congress, and undermines the will of the people.”

McCormick asserts that Trump’s actions represent a culmination of decades of executive overreach, with the presidency growing into an “imperial force” that operates beyond constitutional limits.

She points to specific examples of what she describes as abuses of power, including the unilateral shutdown of government agencies, defiance of court orders, and the weaponization of federal institutions to target political opponents and reward allies.

McCormick also highlights concerns about privacy and security, citing the administration’s decision to grant private entities like Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) access to sensitive government data, which she argues violates federal laws and jeopardizes the rights of millions of Americans.

The activist further criticizes Trump’s efforts to dismantle diversity programs, cut foreign aid, and undermine the independence of the judiciary and the free press. She describes these actions as part of a broader assault on democratic norms and institutions.

“This is not governance,” said McCormick. “This is tyranny.”

McCormick also references Trump’s legal troubles, including his 34 felony convictions, allegations of sexual violence, and business fraud, as well as his role in inciting the January 6 insurrection.

She argues that these actions, combined with his disregard for constitutional limits, have created a crisis that demands urgent action from the American people.

“Despite his crimes, Trump has returned to power, emboldened by a base that values loyalty to one man over loyalty to the Constitution,” said McCormick. “This is not normal. This is not acceptable. This is a crisis.”

In her call to action, McCormick emphasizes that the responsibility to address this crisis falls to the people, as Congress, the courts, and the media have proven insufficient to hold the administration accountable.

She urges citizens to demand congressional action, support the judiciary, protect the vote, engage in peaceful protests, and educate others about the dangers of executive overreach. “The time for complacency is over,” said McCormick. “The time for action is now.”

McCormick’s statement comes amid ongoing debates about the balance of power in the U.S. government and the state of American democracy.

Critics of the Trump administration have long raised concerns about the expansion of executive authority, while supporters argue that Trump’s actions are necessary to address systemic inefficiencies and corruption.

McCormick’s appeal to citizens to take a more active role in governance reflects broader anxieties about the future of democracy and the need for collective action to safeguard constitutional principles.

“The stakes could not be higher,” McCormick warns. “If we fail to act, we risk losing the Republic that our founders fought so hard to create. We risk becoming a nation where the president is above the law, where the executive branch is a law unto itself, and where the people are powerless to stop it.”

Her message concludes with a call for unity and resolve: “Rise up, Americans, and save the Imperiled Republic. The world is watching, and history will judge us by what we do next.”

As the 2026 elections approach and debates over executive power continue, McCormick’s call to action serves as a reminder of the enduring importance of civic engagement and the collective responsibility to defend democracy.
