The target of this latest assault? Medicaid—the lifeline upon which millions depend.
A Threat to Millions
At this very hour, Medicaid provides health care for more than 79 million Americans. It is the quiet guardian of life’s most fragile moments. It ensures that half of all births in this country are covered, that millions of children receive the care they need to grow strong, and that our elderly are not cast aside when they can no longer care for themselves.
But now, there are those who seek to rip away this essential support—not out of necessity, but out of greed.
If these cuts come to pass, the consequences will be felt in every town and city across this nation:
- Nursing homes, where two-thirds of residents rely on Medicaid, may be forced to close their doors, leaving our elders with nowhere to turn.
- Working families, already struggling to make ends meet, could find themselves unable to afford a simple doctor’s visit or the medicine their children need.
- Pregnant mothers may be denied prenatal care, placing their own health—and the future of their children—in grave danger.

And why? So that the wealthiest among us, those who want for nothing, may claim yet another tax break.
The Call to Action
Let us be clear: This is not the first time we have faced such a moment. In 2017, when an attempt was made to slash Medicaid by $800 billion, the American people rose as one voice and declared, “No.” They stood in defiance of those who would trade human dignity for political gain, and in their unity, they prevailed.
Now, my friends, the challenge is before us once again. The forces of wealth and power believe that the people will not fight back, that we will be too distracted, too weary, too divided.
But they underestimate the strength of a people united by justice. They forget that the arc of the moral universe, though long, still bends toward justice.
So let us make it plain: This is not a time to stand idly by. This is a time to lift our voices in unison, to demand that the government serve not just the privileged few, but all its people.
This is a time to say, once and for all, that health care is not a privilege for the wealthy, but a fundamental right for all.
Republicans may think they have the votes to tear down what we have fought so hard to build. But if the American people rise once more—if we march, if we speak, if we demand what is right—then, as before, justice will prevail.
