Let me tell you about an army that doesn’t wear uniforms but marches just the same.
Here in Jersey, where we have tough gun laws, Mike Bloomberg’s Everytown outfit is passing out the ammunition – not the kind that goes bang, but the kind that makes politicians sit up straight.
They sent out the word to their Jersey battalions: We’ve got the strictest gun laws in America, but the other side isn’t sleeping. And they’re right.
While Jersey’s been busy patting itself on the back, some enterprising souls have been cooking up these “Glock switch” contraptions – turning regular pistols into something that would make Al Capone blush.
They’re coming after those newfangled little $30 gizmos that turn pistols into machine guns.
Now here’s the play: A whole new stack of bills hitting Trenton’s marble floors like a judge’s gavel:
- Crushing those Glock switches – because nobody needs a homemade machine gun except maybe John Dillinger’s ghost
- Shielding domestic violence targets – the kind of thing that should’ve been buttoned up tighter years ago
- Making the gun dealers keep better books – since apparently some firearms sellers think paperwork is optional
- Counting every bullet fired – because you can’t fix what you don’t measure
And here’s the beautiful part – Everytown’s not just yelling from the sidelines. They’ve drafted the letters and addressed the envelopes. All the good people gotta do is sign their names with a click on their keyboard or phone screen.
It’s democracy the way the old ward heelers used to run it – only with technology funded by one of America’s billionaire oligarchs.
“Dear Lawmaker,” the letter starts – crisp as a new dollar bill – “As one of your constituents…” The kind of message that makes a politician check which way the wind’s blowing.
Now, the gun lobby’ll howl like stuck pigs, same as always.
They’ll talk about rights and freedoms while the body counts stack up like supermarket advertisements on the door stoop of an abandoned house.
But in Jersey, we remember what real gun violence looks like. This gunfight might just go against the guys with the guns.
One thing’s sure – when Everytown sounds the alarm, people listen. And in Trenton, where the political machines still hum like ’57 Chevys, that noise tends to turn into action.
Will it work? Ask the mothers in Camden. Ask the shopkeepers in Newark. Ask the loved ones of suburban suicide victims. They’ll tell you – something’s gotta give. Maybe this time, it will.
But here’s the sad part – they’re not even asking you to think for yourself.
Everytown’s already written the letter to your assemblyman, so all you’ve got to do is sign your name.
It’s democracy by autofill.
The rate of gun violence is staggering, so why do people need a billionaire to put words in their mouths? Would it kill citizens to write a letter or a postcard or tap out an email expressing our horror and indignation over the epidemic of bloody classrooms in America?
Nobody knows if half the people forwarding this could find their polling place without GPS. Politicians are not likely to be moved by such automated correspondence.
Americans have surrendered their country to two clans indebted to the same corporate aristocrats who want to be liberated from democracy and taxation.
One–the Republicans–is like the deranged gunman who assaulted children in a Texas school. The establishment Democrats, on the other hand, are reminiscent of the Uvalde police officers who cowered in the hallway outside the bloody classroom.
Lisa McCormick was the only Democrat in New Jersey who challenged disgraced former US Senator Bob Menendez in 2018.
She frequently says that “Americans must rise up to the responsibility of citizenship.”
Only people like you can remove the spineless senators who betrayed the Democratic electorate by capitulating on a GOP budget bill or allowing Chuck Schumer to remain Senate Minority Leader.
McCormick was outgunned in every way when she stood up against Menendez, but she received 159,998 votes.
The anti-establishment progressive Democrat is still advocating for broader involvement, smarter Democratic policy plans, and common sense courage that is missing from our current government.
If one woman can do it, imagine what a whole bunch of people like you could do against the do-nothing Democrats who lost nearly every fight against Trump Republicans and the greedy corporate aristocrats.
The deadline for petitions to put progressive anti-establishment Democrats on the 2026 primary ballot is one year away. If you care about the country, you should be gathering signatures and connecting with like-minded people.
DemocratsFor.US is a good place to begin.
