With the federal enforcement of REAL ID set to begin on May 7, 2025, the MVC recently announced additional opportunities for its customers to get those documents with the creation of dedicated -REAL ID Thursdays- at licensing centers across the state.
Getting a REAL ID is not mandatory for New Jerseyans, but starting May 7, 2025, it will be required to board domestic flights and enter certain federal facilities. Standard New Jersey driver licenses will remain valid for driving and other identification purposes.
The MVC is composed of eight members, four of whom are appointed by the governor.
Three cabinet members also serve on an ex officio basis: the New Jersey Attorney General, the State Treasurer, and the Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
The eighth position is reserved for the Chief Administrator, a non-voting member, who also serves as the Chair of the MVC.
Latrecia “Trish” Littles-Floyd joined the MVC as security director in 2018, after a career with the New Jersey State Police, and was selected as acting Chief Administrator on July 1, 2022.
Littles-Floyd is the first African-American woman to achieve the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the New Jersey State Police. She retired from the law enforcement agency in February 2016.
