Investigation underway in Elizabeth man fatally shot in Jersey City car crash

Authorities are investigating the fatal shooting of a 39-year-old Elizabeth man whose crashed vehicle was discovered in the Greenville section of Jersey City on Saturday afternoon.

According to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, police responded to reports of a car accident near the intersection of Old Bergen Road and Merritt Street shortly after 4 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found a vehicle that had struck a tree, with an unresponsive man in the driver’s seat.

The victim, identified as Devon Reid, had sustained a gunshot wound to his neck.

Emergency personnel transported Reid to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 7:16 p.m. The exact circumstances leading to the shooting remain unclear, and the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause and manner of death.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are leading the investigation. As of now, no arrests have been made, and authorities have not released any information about potential suspects or motives.
