Jersey City police are investigating reports that an 8-year-old child shot a 12-year-old boy in the arm with a handgun around 2:30 a.m. on Friday at 25 Sal-Laf Court.

Jersey City police are investigating an early morning shooting involving two young relatives inside a residential apartment.

Authorities say that an 8-year-old child retrieved a handgun and discharged it, striking a 12-year-old boy in the right tricep.

The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Friday at 25 Sal-Laf Court.

The victim, whose injury was described as a non-life-threatening graze wound, was transported to Bayonne Medical Center by a family member.

Police responded to the hospital after being notified by Bayonne authorities.

Officers were observed outside the emergency entrance examining a pink SUV, though its connection to the incident remains unclear.

A Jersey City police spokesperson stated that the investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed at this time. Authorities have not yet disclosed how the firearm was accessed or whether adults were present at the time of the shooting.

Detectives later returned to the apartment to search for the weapon involved.
