Council race was too close to call… now it is even closer

The Rotting Heart of Democracy: Roselle’s Deadlocked Farce and the Stench of Machine Politics

The numbers lie like a rigged roulette wheel in this Union County swamp, where the Democratic primary for an at-large council seat has curdled into a perfect, pustulent tie—1,472 votes apiece, a numerical obscenity that reeks of either cosmic mockery or cold-blooded theft.

Incumbent Denise Wilkerson and challenger Cynthia Johnson, two soldiers in a proxy war for Roselle’s putrid soul, are knotted in a deadlock so precise it stinks of ratfuckery.

Sixteen votes evaporated into the Jersey mist since election night, when Wilkerson clung to her lead like a drunk to a lamppost. Now? Zero. Nada.

A void where democracy should be.

And the only thing thinner than Wilkerson’s mandate is the oxygen in Roselle’s crumbling corridors of power.

Let’s cut the civics-class bullshit. This isn’t governance; it’s a knife fight in a graveyard where the tombstones read “Accountability” and “Decency.”

Seventy-three provisional ballots fester like unopened poison pills in some bureaucrat’s desk drawer, set for counting Wednesday alongside one lone vote-by-mail ballot—likely some hospice patient’s deathbed plea for sanity ignored until the vultures circled.

And if the tie holds? A judge could order a do-over primary. Picture it: Roselle’s political ghouls staggering back to the polls, pockets lined with fresh grift, souls long since mortgaged to the machine.

A rerun of the same sewage flowing through the same broken pipes.

The factions here aren’t just divided; they’re drenched in mutual loathing.

Wilkerson and her 4th Ward counterpart Cindy Thomas—clinging to a withering 24-vote “lead” against Marie Dupont—strut as loyal foot soldiers for Mayor Donald Shaw, a convicted heroin dealer who did time at Rikers and now runs Roselle like a personal fiefdom.

Shaw, who blew $60,000 of taxpayer cash on Taj Lounge parties while disabled tenants got evicted from his Elizabeth slum, presides over a government in freefall: no business administrator (just the fire chief playing pretend), a CFO working one day a week, and a part-time tax assessor.

His enablers? Wilkerson and Thomas, who backed the illegal firing of Police Chief Stacey Williams—a purge ruled “bogus” by a state judge—and rubber-stamped fiscal sewage flowing through the streets .

On the other flank, Johnson and Dupont wave the bloody shirt of Assemblyman Reginald Atkins and ex-mayor Garrett Smith.

This tie isn’t an accident; it’s Roselle’s DNA unraveling.

A borough where politics is “less about governance and more about gladiator bloodsport,” where “shadowy alliances” and “eviction scandals” fester like open wounds .

Where Shaw brags about a new library while litter chokes the sidewalks and a 73-year-old electrician with a brain tumor fights his eviction goons in court.

Every one of those 73 uncounted ballots pulses with venom—legacy grudges, payoffs, the silent scream of a community drowning in apathy.

So here we stand, on the edge of Wednesday’s count.

Will a provisional ballot plucked from a dumpster break the tie? Will a judge order Roselle to replay its farce? Doesn’t matter.

The damage is done. Roselle’s soul isn’t just for sale; it’s rotting on the auction block, and the vultures are already picking at the bones.

Democracy in Roselle? Call it what it is: a suicide pact signed in the ink of indifference. The count continues. The decay deepens. God help them all.
