Atlantic City murder investigation is underway after Robert Davis was shot and killed

According to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office, on Thursday, June 26, 2025, just before 9 p.m., the Atlantic City Police Department responding to a 911 call found a man, identified as Robert Stanley Davis, 40, of Atlantic City, lying on the sidewalk outside the Shore Park apartments, located at 225 N. Virginia Ave., with what appeared to be one gunshot wound to the head.

The humid evening air carried no warning when the gunshot echoed through the 200 block of North Virginia Avenue on Thursday, June 26, 2025.

At 8:53 p.m., a 911 call reported a man lying motionless on the sidewalk outside the Shore Park apartments, located at 225 N. Virginia Ave.

Police arrived to find Robert Stanley Davis, 40, of Atlantic City, unresponsive, a single gunshot wound to his head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Atlantic County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the obvious but necessary truth: Davis was murdered.

His death, ruled a homicide, now sits in the hands of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Atlantic City Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit, investigators sifting through the fragments of a life interrupted.

But this is not just another case file in a city too familiar with violence.

Davis was a man with a name, a history, and people who knew him. The sidewalk where he fell is not just a crime scene—it is a place where someone’s story ended abruptly, without explanation.

Authorities are urging anyone with information—a whispered rumor, a suspicious figure seen lingering near Shore Park, a car that didn’t belong—to come forward.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office has set up multiple channels for tips, including an anonymous online form and Crime Stoppers, which offers cash rewards for information leading to an arrest.

Atlantic City has seen its share of tragedies, but each one leaves a mark. The question now is whether this shooting will fade into grim statistics or if someone, somewhere, will decide that silence is no longer an option.
