Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst unveils Same Day Acute Care service

In a world too often bound by the slow machinery of bureaucracy, where need knocks and is told to wait, a new door has opened at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.

The 87th Medical Group has unveiled a beacon of progress and compassion — the Same Day Acute Care service — a testament to the belief that dignity begins with access and that time, in matters of health, must no longer be a barrier to care.

This new clinic is not merely a structural addition to the base. It is a bold declaration that when the people call, we must be ready to answer.

With no appointments required, and no delay tolerated, this walk-in service provides eligible beneficiaries with immediate care for non-life-threatening conditions like the flu, colds, minor injuries, and sore throats — the ailments that do not always wait for calendars to align or schedules to clear.

In its first month, 1,374 patients walked through its doors, not just seeking relief but receiving it — swiftly, skillfully, and with respect.

This initiative is a clear break from a model that too often left people waiting in limbo, suffering in silence or seeking help from outside providers.

Instead, the 87th Medical Group is ushering in a new era — one that bends toward justice, efficiency, and mission readiness. Because readiness, true readiness, begins with wellness. And wellness requires care that is timely, equitable, and compassionate.

As Col. Ann McManis, commander of the 87th Medical Group, affirmed, “We’re committed to ensuring they receive the care they need, when they need it, to maintain their health and readiness.”

Her words reflect more than leadership — they speak of a moral obligation. Because healthcare, at its most fundamental level, is not merely a service but a right. And that right must be upheld with the urgency and resolve we reserve for our highest duties.

This is not just about medicine. It is about stewardship. Lt. Col. Steven Poe emphasized the fiscal responsibility of this new approach, reducing reliance on external urgent care and reinvesting those resources where they belong — within the community, in service of those who serve.

That kind of responsibility reflects not just good management, but great care. And great care is what the people deserve.

Doctors, nurses, and medical technicians — armed with experience, technology, and a commitment to healing — now stand ready to meet the immediate needs of our servicemembers and their families.

These professionals are not just healers of the body. They are builders of trust, guardians of resilience, and defenders of a vital truth: that no mission is more sacred than safeguarding the well-being of those who protect us.

This service is about more than convenience.

It is about clarity of purpose. It is about a faster return to duty, yes — but also a deeper return to wholeness. For when people know that their health is valued, when they are seen, heard, and helped without delay, they carry not only their strength back to their work, but their faith in the system that stands behind them.

To every eligible beneficiary, the message is clear: You are not alone. Help is not far away. The Same Day Acute Care clinic is here, today and every day, as a sanctuary of service and a symbol of what care ought to be — immediate, effective, and grounded in respect for all.

The 87th Medical Group supports nine Wing equivalents and 88 mission partners by enabling a medically fit Joint Force, providing mission-ready medics, and improving the health of our community by delivering patient-centered care!

The 87th MDG supports more than 42,000 Airmen, Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Coast Guardsmen, retirees, civilians, and their families living and working on and around Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.

Hours of operation are Monday-Friday 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. The appointment line can be reached at (866) 377-2778.

The 87th Medical Group has not just improved access. It has delivered justice in the form of healthcare. And in doing so, it has reminded us all that the measure of any institution lies not in its size, but in its willingness to meet the moment. And this moment, indeed, has been met.
