A lockdown ended about an hour after an active shooter was reported at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JB MDL), a military facility in Burlington County, New Jersey, that turned out to be unfounded.
The military base said in a social media post shortly after 11 a.m. that all personnel are asked to remain locked down until further notice. Anyone outside the military base was also urged to take cover.
“Our priority is the safety and security of everyone on the installation,” said Col. Michael Stefanovic, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst commander. “We worked closely with local law enforcement and emergency responders to ensure the situation was investigated and resolved as quickly as possible.”
Located 18 miles southeast of Trenton, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst is the only tri-service base in the United States Department of Defense and includes units from all six armed forces branches.
JB MDL is an amalgamation of McGuire Air Force Base, Fort Dix (Army), and Naval Air Engineering Station Lakehurst (Navy), providing a unique platform for all three branches of the military to operate together.
At about 10:58 AM, emergency response personnel responded to reports of an active shooter on the installation. Base emergency protocols were activated, and law enforcement officials arrived on scene.
No active shooter threat was substantiated and the base resumed normal operations at 11:57 AM.
