A teenager is fighting for his life after a shooting turned a peaceful evening at a South Jersey park into a scene of violence, leaving a community searching for answers and police searching for a suspect.
The Winslow Township Police Department is investigating after a 17-year-old boy was shot at New Brooklyn Park on Tuesday night. Officers responded to the area off Erial Road around 9:45 p.m. after reports of gunfire.
When they arrived, police found the teenager with a gunshot wound. He was transported to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where he was listed in critical condition. The situation was serious enough that a medical helicopter was called to the scene.
The shooting occurred in the parking lot of the 758-acre park, located in the Sicklerville section of the township. The aftermath was marked by a heavy police presence, with the area blocked off as investigators combed the grass and parking lot for evidence. Their search yielded multiple shell casings scattered across the lot.
As of Wednesday, the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities have not released any information about potential suspects or a possible motive. No arrests have been made.
The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and Winslow Township Police are asking anyone with information to come forward. Tips can be reported to Winslow Police at 609-567-0700, extension 1010, or to the prosecutor’s office at 856-225-8400.
