A 15-year-old has been charged with aggravated manslaughter in the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old driver whose vehicle crashed on a southern New Jersey road, authorities said.
Officers from the Mullica Township Police Department responded about 11 p.m. Friday to a single-vehicle crash at Route 30 and Snow Hill Road, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.
Arriving officers found the driver, Javonte Stallworth, 19, of Mullica Township, dead inside the vehicle with a gunshot wound to the head, prosecutors said.
Witnesses told police that two people fled the scene on foot. Officers later located and detained two juvenile passengers who had been traveling with Stallworth, according to the prosecutor’s office.
Both juveniles were taken to the prosecutor’s office for questioning.
The unidentified 15-year-old from Mullica Township was subsequently charged with aggravated manslaughter, unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, possession of a firearm without a serial number and possession of a firearm by a minor.
The teen was taken to Harbor Fields Juvenile Detention Center.
