Decorated Marine hero who served in Vietnam responds to Hegseth bloodlust

By Stewart Resmer, USMC (Ret.)

Would that I could, we would walk in the gardens as the sages of the past would do, heads down in deep moral contemplation over this, minding our steps so as not to kill even the smallest creature beneath our feet, feeling regretful guilt for the grass we crush and the stones we burden.

Instead, we live in a world of gigafactory bytes and terabytes of information at the speed of fiber-optic light.

And so it goes within my soul: I am repulsed. I do not abide any of this gratuitous violence in the guise of vengeance and righteous retribution.

The very idea that this nation is led in our time by individuals who would manufacture such a proposition: to broadcast the execution of the condemned for public viewing as proof of some mighty nation’s leaders’ resolve—or as a warning to others!

It’s not. It’s bloodlust, in my opinion, no different from a “snuff flick”—a murder filmed as an act of terror by a deranged mind.

What’s next, I ask now? Pay-per-view on some enterprising capitalist media outlet? Film at 11 on the evening news?

“Thou shalt not kill” is not a suggested subscriber remedy.

It is a command.

SPEAK IT.

Amen.

The author, Stewart Resmer, is a highly decorated Vietnam-era Marine Corps veteran, who followed his heart after a career as a Hollywood stuntman and now lives in Wayne Township, New Jersey.
