WAYNE, N.J. — Unionized medical imaging workers at ImageCare in Sussex County have voted to authorize a strike as they press for their first contract, Teamsters Local 125 announced Friday.
The bargaining unit includes 45 technologists and technologist aides who perform X-rays, MRIs and other imaging services for patients across Sussex County, according to the union. The workers organized nearly two years ago and are seeking higher pay and more affordable health insurance, the union said.
The release did not say when a strike might begin or describe the state of negotiations beyond the union’s account. The authorization vote gives union leaders the option to call a walkout; it does not mean one has started.
Paxton Ryan, president of Local 125, accused the company of stalling.
“For nearly two years, these essential health care workers have been fighting for their first union contract, only to be met with delays and insulting offers by their employer,” Ryan said. “If this greedy employer wants to continue to play games and bargain in bad faith, they will force Teamsters to the picket line. ImageCare Teamsters know their worth and aren’t afraid to strike for it.”
The union framed the contract fight as tied to patient care, saying workers need adequate resources to provide quality services.
Alyssa Perry, an ImageCare employee and Local 125 member, said workers cannot afford the health plan their employer offers.
“On behalf of all my co-workers, we are finally standing up for ourselves after years of being underpaid and undervalued,” Perry said. “We are health care workers, but we can’t even afford the health care plan offered through our employer. This is unacceptable. We are prepared to stand united and strike if necessary until we get the respect and fair treatment we deserve.”
The release did not include a response from ImageCare.
Teamsters Local 125, based in Wayne, says it represents more than 4,200 workers across New Jersey.
