Pedestrian Fatality on North Jersey Coast Line Near Hazlet Station

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a New Jersey Transit train on the North Jersey Coast Line yesterday afternoon.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:52 pm near the Hazlet Station on Holmdel Road.

According to NJ Transit spokesperson Everett Merrill, the train involved was not in passenger service and was moving along the tracks when it struck the individual.

“There were no customers onboard the train, and no crew members were injured,” said Merrill. “However, NJ Transit Police are investigating the cause of the incident.”

The identity of the deceased is not being released at this time. The investigation is ongoing.

The accident caused delays of up to 15 minutes on the North Jersey Coast Line between the Aberdeen-Matawan and Little Silver stations in both directions.

NJ Transit reminds the public to stay clear of train tracks at all times.
