Two killed in Mays Landing crash involving stolen vehicle; Attorney General investigating

Two people were killed Saturday morning in a head-on collision involving a stolen vehicle in the Mays Landing section of Hamilton Township, authorities said.

According to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, the crash happened around 7:30 a.m. near the intersection of Route 50 and Third Street.

One adult and three juveniles who were inside the stolen vehicle have been charged, officials said. The names of the victims and the suspects, along with the specific charges, have not been released pending notification of family and the ongoing investigation.

The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability is investigating the circumstances of the fatal collision. Under a 2019 state law, the Attorney General’s Office must investigate any death that occurs during an encounter with a law enforcement officer acting in an official capacity or while a person is in custody.

Mays Landing is an unincorporated community and the county seat of Atlantic County, New Jersey, located inside Hamilton Township. It sits along the Great Egg Harbor River and offers a mix of historic charm, outdoor recreation, and local shopping.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office and Hamilton Township Police Department are also investigating. Route 50 was closed to traffic between Second and Fourth streets while officials processed the scene.
