Trenton block party shooting leaves 2 killed, 8 wounded by gunshots

Two people were killed and eight others wounded early Sunday when multiple suspects opened fire into a crowd of about 100 people at a block party, authorities said.

Trenton patrol units were dispatched to the 100 block of Locust Street at approximately 12:23 a.m. on Aug. 30, 2026, on a report of a shooting in progress, according to the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Trenton Police Department.

Responding officers located several adult victims who were transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center either by ambulance or private vehicle. In total, 10 individuals suffered gunshot wounds.

Two of those victims — a 33-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man — were pronounced dead.

The prosecutor’s office said eight other victims, two women and six men ranging in age from 23 to 43, were treated for their injuries and stabilized.

Sources that erroneously reported a total of 11 people were shot had confused someone involved in an unrelated car accident with the mass shooting victims.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a large block party was being held in the 100 block of Locust Street when multiple suspects walked up and began firing into the crowd. The scene encompassed the entire block, and more than 50 spent shell casings were located. Multiple vehicles were struck by gunfire, police said.

Trenton Mayor W. Reed Gusciora said officials were still learning about the victims but released details about one of the men killed.

“We understand that one of the individuals who lost his life had been working to turn his life around after returning home from incarceration and had recently been recognized for his commitment to reentry and positive change,” Gusciora said.

A woman claiming to be the aunt of one of the victims told NBC Philadelphia that she had brought her nephew to the hospital after he was shot in the head.

Police taped off an entrance to the hospital — about two miles from the scene of the shooting — and towed away a vehicle parked at the emergency room that had visible damage.

Investigators remained at the Locust Street scene Sunday morning, placing nearly 40 evidence markers on the ground. Officers from the Ewing Police Department responded to assist with crowd control.

The Trenton Police Department’s Crime Scene Unit processed the scene, and detectives with the Mercer County Homicide Task Force are reviewing surveillance footage and attempting to locate witnesses.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
