TOMS RIVER, N.J. — A 19-year-old Freehold man has been sentenced to 10 years in state prison for stabbing a woman at a Jackson Township apartment complex and then fleeing police, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Superior Court Judge Kenneth T. Palmer sentenced Jaden Thompson on Oct. 23 to 10 years for attempted murder, subject to the No Early Release Act, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced. Thompson must serve 85% of that term before he is eligible for parole.

Thompson also received five-year terms for endangering the welfare of a child and for eluding, to run at the same time as the attempted murder sentence. He pleaded guilty to all of the charges Aug. 31.

According to the prosecutor’s office, Jackson Township police were called to the Paragon Apartments on Larsen Road on Nov. 27, 2025, and found a woman with a stab wound to the abdomen. A 19-month-old child was found nearby and was not hurt. The woman was treated and released.

Investigators determined that Thompson had attacked the woman and then fled in a black Hyundai Sonata, authorities said.

The next day, Edison Township police in Middlesex County tried to stop Thompson’s vehicle. He sped off, crashed and ran from the car before officers arrested him nearby, the prosecutor’s office said. He was moved to the Ocean County Jail on Nov. 29, 2025, and has been held there since.

Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Kaitlyn Burke and Assistant Prosecutor Rachel Tarver handled the case. Billhimer credited the Jackson Township Police Department, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit and K-9 Unit, the Edison Township and Carteret police departments, and the U.S. Marshals Service.
