NEWARK, N.J. — A Newark man has been convicted of first-degree murder in the October 2023 shooting death of a 60-year-old man on a city street, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said.
A jury on Oct. 20 found Antwine King, 35, guilty of murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun and second-degree possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II announced.
According to the prosecutor’s office, King got into an argument with Vincent Anderson, 60, of Newark, on Oct. 22, 2023, in the area of Clinton Place and Renner Avenue. King shot Anderson once in the back and ran from the scene, prosecutors said.

Laprade said the verdict “affirmed that his life mattered.”
King is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 5. He faces 30 years to life in prison, according to the prosecutor’s office.
