Rutgers lecturer Heather Pierce wins 2026 APSA award for contingent faculty

Heather Pierce, a lecturer in the Department of Political Science at Rutgers University, is among three winners of the 2026 American Political Science Association Award for Excellence in Scholarship, Teaching, or Leadership by Contingent Faculty, the association announced.

The award is sponsored by APSA’s Committee on the Status of Contingent Faculty in the Profession. It recognizes scholars who have made significant contributions to political science without tenure-track employment. This year marks the award’s second year.

The committee praised Pierce’s service as a lecturer at Rutgers for nine years, during which she has taught a wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses. “The APSA Committee on the Status of Contingent Faculty in the Profession is honored to include Dr. Pierce among the winners of this year’s award,” the committee said.

Pierce is the chair of the New Brunswick Faculty Council, a faculty representative to the Rutgers Board of Trustees and president of the Rutgers Adjunct Faculty Union.
