CAMDEN, N.J. — A Pennsylvania man has pleaded guilty to robbing a bank in Voorhees last year after showing an employee a handgun tucked in his waistband, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey said.
Phu Nguyen, 36, of Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty Oct. 29 to armed bank robbery before Chief U.S. District Judge Renée Marie Bumb in federal court in Camden.
On June 27, 2025, Nguyen entered the Bank of Princeton in Voorhees dressed in all black and wearing a face mask, according to statements made in court and documents filed in the case.
He walked up to a teller and handed her a note that read, “This is a robbery. Give me all 100’s, $50,000, I have a gun,” prosecutors said. After reading the note, the teller gave him $1,760 in cash.
Nguyen then went to a second bank employee and told her to open another cash drawer, according to the court record. He lifted his shirt and displayed a black handgun in his waistband, then fled the bank.
The armed bank robbery charge carries a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and five years of supervised release.
Bumb scheduled sentencing for March 10, 2027.
Special agents from the South Jersey Resident Agency of the FBI’s Philadelphia Field Office investigated the case, with assistance from the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, U.S. Attorney Robert Frazer said.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Joseph McFarlane and Helen Park are prosecuting the case. Nguyen is represented by attorney David Bahuriak of Bahuriak Law Group.
